Roza Terenzi aka. Katie Campbell, has escaped Berlin lockdown and is currently on the first leg of her NZ tour, starting with Beacon Festival in Auckland.

She delivers us a pretty special mix for our 24th instalment in the series - a little more down-tempo and reminiscent of her iso-diaries while in NZ quarantine.

First and foremost, can you tell us a little bit about this mix? Any tracks or artists you would like to give a shout-out to in particular?

I felt compelled to make this mix during my mandatory hotel isolation period, depicting certain moods I was flowing in between; reflective, sensual, longing, hope... suspended in time. The tracks are very special to me and remind me mostly of missing loved ones. I really wanted to focus on speech and lyric - especially female vocals. The mix is actually a vessel for femine energy and some of what that represents to me. Snippets from the “100% Genuine” CD released on Rephlex Records have been woven throughout the mix, a collection of real phone recordings from a dating agency.

You’re about to play your first live gig in a while for Beacon Festival in NZ, how does that feel? Will you visit home while you’re down south as well?

I am freaking out to be honest! It feels so foreign yet also familiar, i’m just trying to embrace the nerves and remind myself it’s a great thing to feel them. I’m feeling very grateful to experience this environment again and my goal is just to enjoy every moment and not overthink it all. I spent my last week in isolation trying to plot every single possible way to make it via Perth on my way back to Europe but unfortunately it wasn’t possible logistically and would have to do another round of self isolation… which is a bummer but I just have to be patient and aim to be back there maybe at the end of the year.

I listened to your first ever track today. Literally can hear where it all began - do you reckon you’ll ever collab with your dad again?

We do in casual ways I guess! He recently made an edit of Stylish Tantrum which i was loving ha! I’m so grateful to be able to send him my music and feel that appreciation. I've done a remix for him in the last few years.. Hopefully we can do some more stuff together at some point.

What has been the biggest highlight about moving to Berlin thus far? Do you feel like it was a natural progression to move here after Melbourne for honing your sound?

The highlight has been learning to slow down and connect with life properly again. It was a natural progression in terms of logistics with an increased touring schedule outside of Australia.
But i moved over 2 weeks before corona hit - which totally threw all of that off. I’m really grateful for the positives that have come from this though, falling in love with music again; listening properly, having time to make music, collaborate, exploring new hobbies, making the city feel like my home instead of being so transient. And mostly spending quality time with loved ones which I will treasure.

Planet Euphorique’s debut LP ‘Modern Bliss’ has been described as ‘Roza Terenzi fully realized’ and you can definitely hear that - it’s an absolute masterpiece and really does showcase the complex and diverse plethora of sounds you encapsulate. Can we look forward to any new releases/projects dropping in the not too distant future that top this?

I think I definitely need a bit of space and opportunity for growth before I attempt something on that same spectrum; right now I have really been enjoying collaborating with a few different friends and the different ways we can do this… different styles of music and exploring that… watch this space!

Congrats on the launch of your own record label Step Ball Chain as well! Who else can we expect to be seeing on it?

Thank you! Next up is a new project called Tapestry Of Sound, a really fun record from D. Tiffany & me recorded in the 2nd half of 2020. I’m putting together the next releases, MYKI from Tel-Aviv and a V/A from friends all around the globe..

If you could say anything to Fiorella Terenzi IRL, what would it be?
Please give me your address! I have some things to send you …. <3
