Bristol hard-hitting native, Gallegos, is back with a 4 track solo EP for the 17th Original Series release on Banoffee Pies Records - and boy oh boy, it ain’t too shabby! ‘A Sentiment of Love,’ (released just last week) is a nostalgic reflection and ode to UK Club Culture.

With thumping bass lines and heavy distortion, coupled with euphoric riffs and acid lines that send you soaring, the EP feels like the steady progression of a bloody good night out. Overall it is an exemplary tribute to not only UK Club Culture, but to Gallegos’ accomplished and distinctive sound.

First and foremost, can you tell us a little bit about this mix? Any tracks or artists you would like to give a shout-out to in particular?

This mix is on the tougher side of what I like. Following the format I use of building up higher faster. I tried to include lots of unreleased music for myself with some older bits I recently rediscovered from lost hardrives. YOSH is certainly a producer I’m digging right now, and although not featured in this particular mix, my guy Baby Rollén has to be one of the hottest tickets in town right now!

Your opening track ‘A sentiment of love’ is a soaring tribute to a time in UK Club culture - do you feel like this genre or time in UK club culture is no more? (i mean besides the fact it is lockdown lol)

I think this particular sound is as strong as ever. It’s neither fresh nor stale. Everything comes back round again. Break-beats are popular again, jungle is coming back and I’m sure DNB will have another boom after that.

What are some of the elements or sounds/ times to UK Club Culture are iconic and integral to the sound for you? And how did this transpire into ‘A sentiment of Love?

I guess S.O.L is a nod to the euphoric early dance music of the late 80’s / early 90’s. The boom of ecstacy. Loved up with your mates for the first time. Piano stabs and a Roland 303. I’m a very nostalgic person, not just in music.
Having been living back where I grew up the last couple of years brought a lot of memories and thoughts to the surface again, and my way of dealing with it is writing music.

Who/what have you found yourself listening to in lockdown?

I listen to very little dance music, as I make so much of it. Only when I have to search for records to DJ. I’m pretty detached from current musical trends.
So my music has not changed much through lockdown. I listen to lots of Jazz - Bill Evans for one. Frank Sinatra. Lots of 2pac and Janet Jackson. Röyksopp. Late 90s Drum And Bass - Ed rush / Pascal . As the summer closes in lots more reggae too.

What else can we expect to see/hear from Gallegos in the near future?

You can expect the launch of my record label! Working with more live vocalists and possibly a return to Drum And Bass.
