Following a bit of a hiatus after the release of his beautifully crafted, second EP, Drømmeland with Coastal Haze, Fruit is back and kicking.

Originally from Iceland, but currently based in Denmark, Fruit has made a name for himself in the Copenhagen club scene with his erudite DJing and live-sets. We’re stoked to have him on for our 23rd mix in the series, in anticipation of his forthcoming (and much hyped) third EP release this spring.

First things first; What sort of energy are you bringing with this mix? Any tracks or artists you would like to give a shout-out to in particular?

We have been without clubs for a year now and at first I took this time to get into all sorts of different music - lots of pop, experimental and classical music. I also rediscovered my love for disco. At this point though, I am just longing for a sweaty club night again. It’s been so long!

So this mix is my fantasy club night in 2021.

You’re went back home to Iceland for a month or so to escape the lockdown in Copenhagen at the beginning of the year, how was it?

I hadn’t been in Iceland for almost two years so it was great to see my family again and feel a bit like a tourist in my home-country. I went to 12 different swimming pools while I was there. My sister recently moved to a farm on the countryside with her boyfriend. It is quite an isolated place, the next grocery store is 30 minutes away by car. I had a lovely time visiting her, experiencing the overwhelming nature out there and I even got over my fear of horses.

You’ve released two amazing EPs over the past few years, do you feel like each EP has had a distinctive evolution from the last?

The two EP’s I have released so far were made a year apart so there is certainly a heathy progression to the sound. But I have been taking some time now to work on new material and I am excited to show a pretty dynamic new world of sound.

Who are some of your biggest inspirations? Any names from the local scene we should be taking note of?
At the moment I listen to Percy X and the music he released in the early 00’s almost daily and also a trance project from the late 90’s called “Dr Dna”, which I included in the mix.
Also, Kasper Marott, Alfredo92 and the Axces crew inspire me all the time with both their DJing and productions. A new track of their upcoming record from an artist called “Popmix” is in the mix aswell.

What else can we anticipate to hear/see from Fruit for 2021?
I’m gonna try to go a bit on the offensive this year. I have an EP coming out through Øen Records this spring. If all goes according to plan I should be able to put out two more releases this year - one with experimental music and then another clubby one.

Just before the pandemic I started hosting a party called “Rewild” with 3 friends. We had a really successful first party with 600 people or so but then the rona bitch shut us down. I’m hoping we can manage to do one or two this year.
