Welcome to the first edition of CUTIES x HS - your new local favourite sexy, silly, queer, high NRG party - the third of which is happening at Zur Klappe tomorrow night! First up from the CUTIES fam, we have Light Plastic whose selections pivot from sexy to dramatic but most importantly, makes you want to dance.
Thank you so much for taking the time to put this mix together, can you tell us a little bit about the energy behind it, is there anything you would prescribe doing while listening?
I tried to make the mix sound like what going out with friends feels like to me. There is a lot of energy and you don’t always know where it’s going but if you trust the process and let things fall into place, the night can become delightful. Thinking about this question made me realise that this mix is a love letter to my friends and Berlin nightlife.
Can you tell us a little bit about CUTIES, how it came about and who’s a part of it?
My friends Annelie and Toby (aka Posture) went to a party last year and they didn’t have a good time which inspired them to start their own event series. They came up with the basic idea for Cuties at the party and afterwards, they asked our friend Em if they wanted to join. Eventually, they asked me as well and this is how the collective got formed.
Who are some of the biggest influences on your sound and selections?
The dance floor is a major inspiration. If a track doesn’t make me move while I sit on my chair, I won’t buy it. Sometimes I wonder how other people would move to a certain track that I really like and if the imagined picture in my head looks fun, I want to play it to a crowd. Also, I’ve been listening to a lot of music that I loved when I was younger and it turns out that I’ve always listened to music that’s electronic, dramatic and a bit trashy.
What’s next for Light Plastic?
Nothing planned so far. I’m trying to get back into producing music and I definitely want to play more gigs this winter.
What can we expect tonight? Any advice for those attending?
As I’m gonna play the opening tomorrow, my set will be slower and more house-y than my mixes that have gotten released so far. I want you all to have enough energy for the brilliant DJs playing after me. I’m so excited for ketia, Imad and Private School Latina to play!
