We catch up with limbic.sis, one half of Berlin’s Layers Collective, a FLINTA focused series of parties and events.
First and foremost thank you so much for taking the time to put this mix together, can you tell us a little bit about the energy behind this mix, is there anything you would prescribe doing while listening?
With this mix it's all about fun. I recently found myself playing UK Garage and more breaky stuff which literally can sometimes break open a set and just let people go loose and have fun. I really enjoy seeing how people react when a silly track comes on.
How did Layers come about and what was the initial idea behind the collective?
Layers was created from a desire to create space for FLINTA* folks within Berlins’s queer community. When we had the idea, which was four and a half years ago, we as FLINTA* identifying didn’t really feel seen or welcomed at the spaces that already existed at that point. We decided that we would like to start creating our own spaces, apart from very tough hierarchies within the industry. With Layers we want to elevate and support other FLINTA* artists and share knowledge and resources.
You’re in charge of curating the fire line-ups for Layers, who would be your dream line-up and what has been your favourite event so far?
One very fun part about hosting your own events is that you get to book your favourite DJs for your own party. Who I would love to see on our line up in the future are Roza Terenzi, Stacey Hotwaxx Hale and Miss Kittin. I think it's very important to acknowledge artists who have been in the scene for a long time and significantly influenced it rather than going only with hypes and trends.
My favourite events so far have been last year in the summer at OXI. It was a daytime, outdoor only event and just the perfect summer day. Else this August was also very very fun. Summer is just a vibe .. Even tho I have to say that our first birthday at OHM was also very very cute and intimate, even tho it was coldy March haha
How would you describe your sound as limbic.sis?
My sound has been described as a marble rolling in a rain barrel before and I think that hits the spot quite well. I like percussion as well as trance and acid sounds a lot. Cheeky sounds which wanna make you move. I can’t narrow it down to one specific style, it is for sure constantly evolving and I think that’s also the beauty of it.
Last and not least, what’s next for limbic.sis?
I’m playing in Vienna next Friday with Sedef Adasï and the Layers babes. Very very excited for this one, as we also have so many friends in Vienna and it’s just gonna be a reunion with everyone involved. In February we will host a showcase in Zanzibar, which will also be my winter escape plan.
In March and this is what I’m most excited about, Layers is going to release their first VA. I’m also gonna release my first track on it along with a lot of other very amazing artists. So I’m currently working a lot on music which is the perfect new winter hobby.
