Meet SUMORAI, a man of many aliases bringing some sun-filled flare to your day with a laid-back mix reminiscent of a spring Sunday enjoyed at home. From the depths of Sweden, SUMORAI has been busy supporting local artists through his various projects, as well as working on his own album to be released later this year.
So tell us a little bit about this mix. Was it created with a particular motive in mind or inspired by anything in particular? And are there any artists or tracks you want to give a shout out to in particular?
Most of the tracks in this mix comes from producers from where I live (Malmö) so its packed with local flavors! There are also some new bits from (for example) DJ Yoghurt, Funk Fox and Polejam for some extra spice which I just had to play. I wanted a deep and fun mood to the mix - usually when I record I want it to be spontaneous and uncomplicated. It was recorded on a beautiful and sunny spring Sunday at home, which gave it a laidback and relieving touch I think. If there is any track you need hit me up and I will supply with IDs or mp3s!
I understand you are involved in many projects – Spider Web Radio and Human King being a couple of them. Can you tell us about those?
Spider Web Radio is a music gang and network led by Alf Goblin. We are currently broadcasting mixes and distributing tracks from a 12th century castle somewhere in Sweden! Besides accommodating the modest studio, the vast system of sewerage is also home to Club Nite Site and the more sporadic events of Crossfade Wars. Some tracks in the mix were released on Spider Web Radio Track Pack 001 which came out in December last year. We are gathering tracks for 002, so send us your jams!

Human King is a fairly new project I run with Sven 2 which we don't know what it is! We started HK to let it grow organically and to be a new and open project for us to do what we feel like and let that change freely from planning and without expectations. Only dreaming and doing here :) So far we have released 5 EPs free to download on Bandcamp, check them out! Maybe a pizza or our own spray can brand is next to come...
You’ve been releasing tracks on a handful of labels including Childsplay, Truth Radio, Jens Records and nc4k to name a few. Who are some of your favourite artists / labels and the big influences on your sound?
Ohhh, there are so many! I need to make this simple otherwise I could spend very long time talking about new music haha :D So much cool, hot, sick and freaky stuff coming out from everywhere!!
I listened to the whole Peacefrog catalogue recently, quite a trip! Love that stuff! I also spin a lot of Príncipe at the moment, they are one of my favourite labels and a big influence I think, but I also love Classical Trax for example. Some newer great discoveries for me are Black Zero/BLK0, SIC, IDS, Sample Delivery and Fromage Underground, so check those out if you have not already! :) And some producers that are blasting through my speakers a lot at the moment: Foamek, Tony Rainwater, Cult Member, Хандра and Slythe!!
What have you planned for 2019?
I am releasing an album! But it's taking tiiime haha :) It will feature a bunch of my Soundcloud uploads like Totem, Vibra, Unreal and many other tracks. Working hard on finish everything. The release will be on tape and digital and I am putting it out myself. So I am very excited about that!
Apart from the album I really enjoying recording mixes so I will continue doing that throughout the year. And then of course also continue with Spider Web Radio and all the other projects. Keep your ears, eyes and minds OPEN!
